Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site, Rome City.

This beautiful spot on the shores of Sylvan Lake provided the inspiration for many of the writings of this beloved author/naturalist/photographer. Guided tours of Gene's "Cabin in Wildflower Woods" will enlighten your group about this remarkable woman and her writings. Restored gardens; DNR Naturalist can give guided nature walks on well-groomed, shady paths. Carriage House Visitors Center; rest rooms; gift shop; admission.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the charming three block area of Main Street is a perfect walking destination for your group. Original mid- to late 1800’s architecture throughout. Historic Downtown Ligonier, Ligonier.

With more buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and 15 turn-of-the-century mansions, the City of Ligonier welcomes your groups! Likely to be on your route north from Ft. Wayne to Shipshewana, the downtown area of Ligonier is undergoing tremendous revitalization. Legends of Ligonier Murals are being added to buildings, with the first one completed in 2007 and more being painted in 2008. Watch for the development of Discovery Express Children's Museum and Riverwalk Along the Elkhart.

Ligonier Historical Museum, Ligonier.

The 1889 Gothic Revival Ahavath Shalom Temple is the location of this museum which beautifully reflects the rich heritage of Ligonier’s founders. Once a thriving Jewish settlement, Ligonier’s leading citizens established businesses that prospered and built opulent homes, many of which surround the Museum on the wide, tree-lined Main Street. Luckey Hospital Museum, Wolf Lake.

Named for Dr. James Luckey, this tiny community hospital has been transformed into a museum featuring an astonishing collection of medical equipment dating from the 1700’s. Three rooms reminiscent of the 1930’s era hospital. See just how far medicine has come! Uniformed nurses give guided tours with great fun and interesting narrative! Tour groups welcome but must be scheduled ahead. On SR 109 just off of U.S. 33 in Wolf Lake. Admission.

Mid-America Windmill Museum, Kendallville.

The largest of only two such museums in the nation, this unique venue tells the story of wind power in the growth of our nation. Listen to the song of the wind through the blades of more than 50 authentic windmills along hard-surface paths. Interactive displays in 1800’s mortise & tennon barn; photos, artifacts, video; gift shop; rest rooms, covered picnic pavilion. Multi-purpose building holds 250; can be used for lunch. Senior-friendly attraction. Related topics: 1800's prairie life, steam locomotives, U.S. Westward Expansion, water pumps, grinding grain. Ample coach parking, idle and turn-around.

Old Jail Museum & Sheriff's Home, Albion.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this ornate 1876 Second Empire/Gothic Revival mansion was the jail and home of the Noble County sheriffs and their families. Cell blocks of thick Indiana limestone chocked full of museum-quality local memorabilia. Toys, books, furniture, clothing, and farm implements. Open seasonally, but anytime for groups by arrangement. Some steps and narrow hallways.

Solomon Mier Manor / Historic Homes of Ligonier, Ligonier.

Indulge your groups in the elegance and grace of the Victorian era at the Solomon Mier Manor. This is truly a treasure: painted mural ceilings, remarkable heavy carved woodwork, and a wide front porch just for sipping lemonade! Arrange for a tour of the mansion and end with coffee, tea, or lemonade. By prearrangement only. Admission. Other stately homes may also be available for tour.

Stones' Trace, Ligonier.

Thought to be the oldest building in Noble County, and once an inn for wayfarers traveling from Fort Wayne to Goshen, this building has been many things in its lifetime. Now open for group tours by pre-arrangement, the grounds are the setting for the annual Stone's Trace Pioneer Festival the weekend after Labor Day.
