LIGONIER:
Gateway to Amish Country
|
|

The city of Ligonier, located on the west side of Noble County, is your gateway to Northern Indiana’s popular “Amish Country”.
Just 15 miles/20 minutes south of Shipshewana, Ligonier provides an ideal “Mystery Stop” or “Add-on” to begin or end your trip to the Flea Market! It’s in rural Ligonier where your groups can drive through working Amish farmland and by pristine white homes with kitchen gardens, and may even catch a glimpse of Amish school children at play. Contact the Noble CVB for routing information.
Ligonier offers the greatest concentration of buildings listed on the “National Register of Historic Places” and a fascinating Jewish legacy. Reminisce at the Indiana Historic Radio Museum, learn of Ligonier’s rich history at Ligonier Historical Museum housed in Ahavath Shalom Temple, or tour one of the town’s original late 1800’s mansions.
The City of Ligonier is recording their history through the addition of murals on city buildings. The first mural was completed in September of 2007, and is on the north side of 313 S. Cavin Street. Many more paintings are in various stages of development. Watch for these fascinating works of art throughout town! Ligonier is the only town in Noble County to have its own Visitors Center. Sharing a 1920’s filling station with the Visitors Center is the Indiana Historic Radio Museum (shown left). A local, dedicated team of volunteers will be glad to assist you with planning your time in Ligonier, while knowledgeable step-on guides can meet and enlighten your group with historical facts and interesting lore. Learn about Ligonier’s rich history, current revitalization, and burgeoning future tourism plans! Contact the Ligonier Visitors Bureau to tour sites in Ligonier and to arrange for step-on guide service while in town. |
